League of Legends, the multiplayer online battle arena video game, is the most played video game in the world. And Hong Kong is home to its Season Two World Champion, Kurtis Lau, more commonly known as Toyz, who shared the US$1 million prize money with his Taipei Assassins teammates. Taking a step back from competitions, Kurtis now devotes his energy to elevating e-sports in Hong Kong. Recently named chief team manager at Emperor Esports Stars, he is head coach of professional League of Legends team G-Rex. In tandem, he’s educating Hong Kongers on the value of e-sports and working at improving the reputation of e-sports players in the city through education and community services, in hopes of boosting the industry’s pro league and helping Hong Kong stay competitive with the rest of Asia.
