In the realm of design and luxury furnishings, we’ll always think of Italy—not only because of its storied heritage in furniture making but also its world-renowned Salone del Mobile.Milano furniture fair, often regarded as the top international trade show in this sector. Some of the brightest names and leading manufacturers in this sector will soon gather in Milan for Supersalone, a special September edition that will run 5-10 September at the Fiera Milano fairgrounds as part of Milan Design Week 2021. The fair, as well as the design week, were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic last year, with Supersalone marking the much-anticipated international event’s comeback.
Curated by architect Stefano Boeri and his team of collaborators, this special edition will feature a curated selection of designs produced by companies in the past 18 months. Here, we pick out some of such stellar new collections from leading Italian manufacturers and more notable brands around the world, as well as striking collaborations on our decor wishlist.
1. Hermès
French luxury house Hermès explores texture through rich and raw tactile materials for their latest home collection. "Designed to be touched", the pieces seek to bring a sense of physicality to a post-lockdown world. The Sillage d’Hermès armchair, designed by renowned Indian architectural practice Studio Mumbai, is an exquisite piece with its generous proportions. The armchair is crafted from wood and coated with unique cellulose microfibres made in Puglia, Italy, before artisans varnish and meticulously hand-paint the piece with stripes.
