Elegance meets family comfort in Kourtney Kardashian’s picturesque Californian home by architect Richard Landry and interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard

In sun-drenched Calabasas in California, designer to the stars Martyn Lawrence Bullard has created a haven that marries the modern Mediterranean with the timeless allure of mid-century design for American media personality and socialite Kourtney Kardashian.

The newly built American home by acclaimed architect Richard Landry clocks in at a sprawling 14,000 sq ft amidst the picturesque hills of Southern California, its locale a testament to the Kardashian’s affinity for the area.

The home featured in Bullard’s new book, Star Style, is the epitome of effortless glamour. Kardashian, who was first introduced by an old client who was close to the family, is also a long-time friend of the designer.

“This home was designed to be a sanctuary for her and her growing family and a new look that would capture who she is today,” Bullard muses.

“To create a personal space in such a magnificent architectural design is always intriguing and exciting, and working with Kourtney is always a joy as she is passionate about design and interior design history.”

At the heart of this design endeavour was the inspiration Bullard drew from mid-century aesthetics.

Vintage pieces with rich provenance are juxtaposed against luxuriously comfortable soft furnishings, creating an inviting interior where Kardashian’s family could truly live and entertain.

A neutral palette was chosen as the canvas upon which to build an ever-evolving art collection and, most importantly, to establish a secure and serene retreat for the family.

Limestone and travertine stones provide balance alongside honed marble and oil-rubbed bronze doors and windows, resulting in a timeless backdrop for the home’s interiors.

The choice of materials and finishes in the residence showcase the designer’s commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness. Walls are dressed in eco-friendly plaster, while warm walnut and oak woods accentuate the spaces. Natural fabrics like linen and wool bouclé introduce a sense of texture and natural elegance.

“I am always as green as possible with the way we decorate and the materials we use. Kourtney is very environmentally aware, so we used non-toxic paints and pigments and kept all materials as natural and untreated as possible,” explains Bullard.

In sourcing furnishings, no corner of the world was left unexplored.

Pierre Jeanneret chairs from a renowned dealer in Paris, Oscar Niemeyer chairs from Brazil, and 1950s Italian armchairs discovered in specialist stores in New York are just a few of the treasures collected.
