When the residents of this home in the beachfront neighbourhood of Stanley reached out to Hong Kong-based Liquid Interiors in early 2021, they weren’t looking to renovate their abode.

Instead, they wanted it to be styled by design experts.

“There are so many people [in Hong Kong] who have quite luxurious spaces, but never personalise it or make it cosy,” says the firm’s founder and creative director Rowena Gonzales. The three-storey, four-bedroom house has magnificent views of the Southside of Hong Kong island. The designer was tasked with revamping two living spaces, the expansive terraces they're attached to, as well as the entryway.

Encompassing 2,400 sq ft of interior space, this Clearwater Bay house has five bedrooms and three bathrooms. A generous living and dining area on the ground floor leads to the oceanfront terrace, which measures an additional 600 sq ft. It is the epitome of indoor-outdoor living, with expansive ocean views.

Having lived in apartments in Happy Valley and Mid-Levels for nearly 15 years, Anita Davis, who is from the US, and Mats Dewitte, originally from Belgium—a couple with a growing young family—were “ready to graduate into a house,” says Davis. “We were looking for a home that we could grow into, even as renters,” adds Dewitte.

They moved into the home in 2021. With the support of their landlord, they commissioned Hong Kong-based Joyce Taufer Interior Design Studio to carry out a partial renovation of the house.

With 2,800 sq ft of interior space, this two-storey Ma On Shan penthouse has three bedrooms, four bathrooms and two private terraces to boot, which each measure an additional 400 sq ft and 350 sq ft.

But its considerable size wasn’t the only thing that stood out to Ada Leung, founder of Adapa Architects, which took on a year-long renovation of the home.

“The duplex has a 270-degree view, overlooking Starfish Bay and Double Cove, with full-height floor-to-ceiling windows,” explains Leung. “Naturally, the home is very bright and spacious, as if you’re floating above the sea.”

That inspired her to develop a layout and colour palette for the downstairs living and dining room, where the client could feel like they could “fully immerse into nature.”
