It was a night full of glitz and glamour as Hong Kong's VVIP society members gathered at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Besides the drop-dead gorgeous gowns and stunning jewellery on the red carpet, there was so much more that made the Hong Kong Tatler Ball 2017 the most glamorous event in town. Here are 10 highlights from the night:

1. Celebrating 40 years

Tatler Asia

This year's ball celebrated 40 years of Hong Kong Tatler in a grand, contemporary setting. The event logo played off the numbers four and zero, while the black backdrop was contrasted by an abstract interpretation of our iconic city skyline and its skyscrapers. As well as looking back on our history, the ball also had a futuristic feel—after all, our September issue featured our first-ever augmented reality cover.

2. Live from the red carpet

Tatler Asia

For the first time ever in Hong Kong Tatler Ball history, we reported LIVE from the red carpet with our host and fashion director, Justine Lee. Our guests shone bright like diamonds (many of whom were dripping in them, actually, thanks to Chopard), while other guests wowed in Versace and other designer suits and gowns.

3. The Macallan bar

From the red carpet, guests flowed into the cocktail reception where a fantastic selection of drinks and canapes were served. The Macallan's glowing bar pleased all the whisky fans at the ball with their 12-Year-Old Double Cask. To top off the night, an 18-Year-Old Fine Oak was also served at the after party.

4. Opening remarks by Michel Lamunière

Tatler Asia

The event kicked off with an opening speech by Michel Lamunière, the executive chairman of Edipresse Media Asia. Michel took guests down memory lane with some of the most iconic cover photos from the Hong Kong Tatler archives, including throwback pictures of Ronald Arculli and Sabrina Fung-Lam.

5. The gourmet feast

Tatler Asia

Working with the culinary experts at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, the Tatler Ball menu was truly Hong Kong-inspired this year. For the first time ever, American bison was served in Hong Kong, along with smoked pigeon, lobster bisque and mango coconut cremeux to finish.

That's not all—guests were treated to late night snacks including burgers, noodles and a spread of red velvet, chocolate hazelnut and lemon rose cupcakes to keep them dancing all night long.

6. Most Promising Young Ladies

Tatler Asia

A ball would not be complete without some sparkle and shine, and this year, our previous Most Promising Young Ladies including Kristine Li, Josephine Chiu, Candice Chan-Chao, Victoria Law-Ha, Michelle Cheng-Chan and Sabrina Fung-Lam, showcased their stunning jewellery pieces by Chopard by making an entrance into the ballroom to kick off the awards ceremony.

7. The awards ceremony

Tatler Asia

Hong Kong would not be such a stylish, cosmopolitan city without the hard work of the city's many talented leaders. This year, we recognised four individuals who have greatly influenced Hong Kong, including Queenie Rosita Law as The Most Promising Young Lady; Alan Lo as Leader of Tomorrow; Adrienne Hui as Most Stylish Woman; and Michelle Ong for Philanthropy.

8. Electric musical performances

Tatler Asia

Music is one of the most crucial factors of a great party and this year, we opened the evening with a handpan performance by Chor Lai, while San Diego-based multi award-winning international cover band, Liquid Blue, kept the crowd entertained until late.

Surprise performers Ronald Kwok, David Harilela and Diana D'Arenberg even jumped on stage to belt out some classic hits to an ecstatic crowd.

9. Hong Kong Tatler cover stars

For this year's photo booth, guests stepped into a giant version of Hong Kong Tatler and had a blast becoming cover stars—see the best photobooth snaps here.

Guests also shared their most memorable Tatler Ball memories and 40th-anniversary greetings to Hong Kong Tatler at the after-party—watch the video here.

10. The after-party

The party continued into the early hours of the morning as DJ Fred Fung took to the decks. Guests kicked off their heels and put on Hong Kong Tatler custom-made slippers, while the selfie lights made sure that all those special moments were captured in style.
