An artist who elected the human body to be his canvas, a father of three and a serial entrepreneur, there are many facets to Maxime Buchi that are more than just skin deep. Interested in getting inked? Scroll to the bottom of the article to see how you can win a spot in Maxime's chair when he comes to Hong Kong at the end of March.

1. He's an artist first

Born in Lausanne, Maxime first forayed into the art world as a graffiti artist before his studies in psychology, fine art and graphic design took him to Zurich, Paris and eventually London.

He was, and still is, a man of many interests—but in the end, Maxime found that tattooing, in some way, brought together all of his interests, and ultimately made it his medium of choice.

2. A creative powerhouse

More than just a tattoo artist, Maxime is a multi-faceted creative who has taken his knack for clean aesthetics beyond the shop.

In 2006, Maxime launched his company, Sang Bleu, which encompasses his tattoo studios in London and Zurich, an eponymous lifestyle magazine, a streetwear label and a creative agency.

3. Celebrity skin

Maxime has tattooed his fair share of A-listers, including Kanye West, who got his mother and daughter North West’s birth dates in letters inspired by German Renaissance engraver Albrecht Dürer.

He also tattooed singer Adam Lambert, Keith Flint of The Prodigy and designed the temporary tattoos worn by FKA Twigs at the 2016 Met Gala.

When he’s not busy tattooing or working on other Sang Bleu projects, Maxime can be found at home in Dalston, East London, spending quality time with his wife, daughter, and his twin sons Atlas and Orion.

In an article on Freunde von Freunden, Kevin Chow wrote about the tattoo artist, “As Maxime steps into his home it’s as though a switch is turned and the attention of the towering, tattooed man never content with doing just one thing is utterly consumed by his family.”

5. Watch this space

Maxime is a longtime watch enthusiast and last year, he joined forces with Swiss watchmaker Hublot to design the “Big bang Sang Bleu” watch. The design features Buchi’s signature geometric patterns, and a never-before-seen hexagonal bezel.
