The life and career of William Lim has been colourful thus far – the Hong Kong architect and designer has been a firm fixture in the local arts and culture scene, bringing a strong sense of local pride through his projects that have delighted and intrigued the city. But where did this obsession and dedication to the whimsical Hong Kong vernacular begin? 

In a new exhibition at ArtisTree, William Lim/Fundamental will explore 40 years of Lim’s life and career starting from his early days at the Cornell University in the US, examining how architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Mies van de Rohe and Carlo Scarpa influenced the young man early on.

Over three weeks in September, the exhibition will engage the public with talks, panel discussions and workshops, revolving around Lim’s cultural background and interest in local Hong Kong culture and heritage. Sketches, models, installations and artworks by Lim will be on display, offering viewers an insight into his projects, from design influences to research and conceptualisation.
