The internationally renowned contemporary art fair is set for a March debut

The Affordable Art Fair (AAF) will be debuting in Hong Kong this spring, as it takes place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre between March 15 and 17, 2013. Originally set up in London in 1999, the AAF chooses to eschew the formal nature of contemporary art fairs, focusing on accessibility and inclusiveness. As promised by its name, works will be priced between HK$1,000 and HK$100,000, with three-quarters of all pieces available at under HK$75,000.

Works by emerging young artists provides another focus point, meaning AAF is also an opportunity for savvy collectors to purchase unique artpieces that may increase drastically in value in the future. Another aspect of the fair organisers are keen to emphasise is that the pricing and buying system is simple and transparent, with no hidden costs or commissions.

Will Ramsay, the founder of AAF and the co-founder of Art HK, believes that the event is the next step in Hong Kong’s evolution of the art market. “At each fair, approximately 30 per cent of visitors have never bought an original work of art before, so the fair rather uniquely develops a new generation of collectors, which in turn helps to grow and diversify the regional art market”.
