A new talk at the private museum explores the lost link between Japanese sword-making and its roots in Chinese culture.

The art of Japanese sword-making has been passed down from generation to generation, tracing back to its roots in China and Korea. These artifacts have come to dominate cultural representations of Japan, becoming a symbol of the samurai philosophy and the Bushido code. Sword collectors and aficionados from around the world praise the craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into forging these elegant pattern-welded blades. However, their origins in Chinese culture have since been forgotten.

Hing Chao, Tatler 500 Lister, a martial arts practitioner and leading researcher in the field, will discuss his research on how the tradition of sword-making in Japan has been influenced by Chinese culture in his lecture at the Liang Yi Museum. The exhibition will also feature a number of handcrafted swords to demonstrate the deep-rooted ties between Chinese and Japanese culture.
