Airmiles are the last thing that comes to mind, with the winner spacious first-class suites may have something to do with it

Favourite Airline: Singapore Airlines

It’s not possible to say exactly why 28 per cent of our readers across Asia chose Singapore Airlines as their top pick in this category, but we suspect that the carrier’s capacious first-class suites might have something to do with it. Technically designated a “class beyond first” and available exclusively on the Airbus A380, the suites have set the standard for luxury scheduled air travel since their launch in 2008. Designed by feted superyacht interior designer Jean-Jacques Coste, the suites feature sliding doors and window blinds reminiscent of luxury sleeper trains, a 60-centimetre wall-mounted LCD TV and a generously wide armchair hand-stitched by Poltrona Frau’s master Italian craftsmen that folds down into a full, two-metre-long bed. The airline’s Book the Cook service allows you to pre-order your favourite meal, served with Dom Perignon and a selection of excellent wines, of course, while amenities include pyjamas and tableware by Givenchy, Bose headphones and a Salvatore Ferragamo comfort kit sporting a full-sized bottle of fragrance. What’s more, you have the option of combining adjacent suites to create a double bed—perfect for the times when first class just isn’t quite spacious or private enough.

2nd Cathay Pacific has spruced up its first-class suites and changed its logo as part of an ongoing design refresh. That wasn’t enough for the airline to claim top spot, but the Hong Kong-based carrier was still a popular choice across Asia, with 20 per cent of you electing it as your favourite carrier.

3rd Dubai-based carrier Emirates also got the thumbs up from our readers across Asia, with 10 per cent of the vote.

Hong Kong’s Pick: Cathay Pacific

When it comes to their favourite airline, there’s little doubt among Hongkongers. A whopping 59 per cent of you chose hometown carrier Cathay Pacific as your top choice, with Singapore Airlines and Emirates a distant second and third, respectively.
