With Chinese New Year just around the corner, many of us are looking forward to the four-day long weekend. If you’re thinking about booking a last-minute getaway, there are plenty of places within a five-hour direct flight that will allow you to make the most of your holiday. From seaside cities to island escapes, here are five destinations that are just a hop, skip and jump away from Hong Kong

Okinawa, Japan—3 hours

Home to white-sand beaches and unspoilt dive spots, Okinawa is a tropical paradise that makes for an ideal jumping-off point to explore the neighbouring islands. Ishigaki and Miyako islands boasts pristine coral sites, as well as local delicacies made from home-grown ingredients like purple sweet potato, sea grapes and sake.

Hoi An, Vietnam—2 hours

Taipei, Taiwan—2 hours

Hong Kong travellers are no strangers to the capital city of Taiwan, best known for its night markets and attractions such as the natural hot spring in Beitou and the Shifen waterfall. Whether you’re a first-time or regular visitor, there’s always something new to discover in Taipei.

Busan, South Korea—4 hours

It’s possible to take a two and a half-hour train ride from Seoul to Busan, but if your idea of a holiday consists of beaches, mountains, hot springs and fresh seafood, then skip the capital city and hop on a four-hour direct flight to this laid-back town of South Korea. While you’re here, just take a scenic walk along the coast, soak up the local culture at the Gamcheon Culture Village and watch the sunrise from the Haedong Yonggungsa temple.

Siargao, the Philippines —7 hours

Technically, traveling to Siargao from Hong Kong takes seven hours—but why not kill two birds with one stone with a stopover in Cebu? One of the best-kept secrets of the Philippines, Siargao offers some of the best waves in Asia for surfing enthusiasts and turquoise water for all kinds of water activities, from snorkeling in the lagoons to paddle boarding through ancient mangroves.
