Nearly 400 lots of the famed artistic couple's captivating collection will be up for sale in Paris in February 2021

Sotheby's will be putting nearly 400 of renowned artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude's private collection up for auction on February 17, 2021 called Unwrapped: The Hidden World of Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The collection will allow you to step into the private sphere of the famed artistic couple.

The art pieces on sale showcase the range of their artistic inspirations and friendships with other 20th century artists, as all as the long-time New York studio where the two projected their artistic vision to the world.

The collection also includes several works by Christo and Jeanne-Claude going as far as a decade back, featuring many of their well-known public projects such as The Pont Neuf, Project for Paris and their famed Package and Store Front series from the 1960s.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude as artists have delighted all corners of the globe with their temporary installations, yet the story of their artistic friendships has been entirely private. This sale will allow the first glimpse of these friendships and connections that influenced and surrounded them.

Some of the works link to Andy Warhol, Yves Klein, Nam June Paik, Marcel Duchamp and many more.

"Together with his partner Jeanne-Claude, Christo changed the visual language of art in a way that no other artist has done before, transforming the public’s perspective and expectations of what art can be and how it can be experienced," said Simon Shaw, vice chairman of Global Fine Art.

"Sotheby’s auction of their personal collection will provide a unique glimpse of their personal and professional world, and we are honoured to pay tribute to this internationally renowned duo, who hold a fundamental place in the history of contemporary art," he adds.

The live auction will take place at 18:00 CET. An exhibition of the works for sale will run in Paris from February 11–21 except February 14, 2021. Interested bidders will need to register online. If you need assistance with bidding and registration, please contact enquiries@sothebys.com.
