First Look: 5 Must-See Works at Fine Art Asia
September 29, 2017 | BY Cherry Lai
In barely over a decade Fine Art Asia, the art fair founded by antique Chinese furniture dealer Andy Hei in 2006, has flourished into one of Asia’s foremost fixtures on the international art calendar for fine art and antiques. This year's show, the fair's 13th edition, is set to be even bigger.
With just 24 hours to go before the curtain raises, we head inside the fair for a first look into some highlights that shouldn't be missed:
Brooch watch by Patek Philippe
Created in 1957, the exquisite brooch watch by Patek Philippe is set with 18-caret yellow gold, enamel ‘leaves’ and diamonds.
Le Bassin aux Nympheas by Claude Monet
An iconic work by one of Impressionist art’s greats, the Le Bassin aux Nymphéas (Waterlily Pond) was painted near the end of Monet’s life in 1919. A passionate gardener, Monet’s famous waterlily pond became the almost exclusive subject of his art.

A Day is Done by Fan Ho
A series of vintage photographs by celebrated photographer and film director Fan Ho will be exhibited at the show. Fan Ho’s works of Hong Kong’s street scenes, stalls, alleys and wet markets taken in the 1950s and 1960s remain some of the most iconic images of the city ever photographed.
George III silver-gilt Warwick vase
Made by silversmith Paul Storr in London from 1819 to 1821, the vase was presented to James Athill, Chief Justice of Antigua, to commemorate his patriotism and is mentioned in his will of 1822. The piece bears the crest of Athill in the presentation inscription.
Imperial yellow silk hangings
This rare pair of Imperial yellow silk hangings date back to the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, and has been privately owned by a European family since 1920.
Fine Art Asia will be held from September 30 to October 3. For more details, visit fineartasia.com.
