From the theme of this year's Hong Kong Book Fair to sharing sessions with international authors, find out more about the annual book fair

This year marks the 30th edition of the Hong Kong Book Fair, proving that print is far from dead (at least in this part of the world).

Running from July 17-23, 2019 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, here's what you need to know about the ever-popular book fair:

1. "Sci-Fi and Mystery" theme

The theme of the Hong Kong Book Fair 2019 is "Sci-Fi and Mystery", giving readers plenty of opportunities to explore the literary worlds of science fiction, fantasy and suspense.

Major exhibit categories include children's and teen's books, religious and spirituality, stationery, arts and crafts, e-books and e-learning, hobbies and multimedia products.

2. Art gallery with four zones

Nine Hong Kong authors will be introduced at the art gallery zone called "A Literary Journey Across Boundless Dimensions", including To Jim, Ni Kuang, Huang Yi, Eddy Lee, Leung For-hing, Albert Tam, Joe Tsui, Chan Ho Kei and Lai Ho.

The authors will be sharing the stories of their works and the development of the science fiction genre in the early days of Hong Kong.

3. Sharing sessions with international authors, sponsored by Book Depository

Besides books, fair visitors can register for a variety of talks and sharing sessions from July 17 to 22 with international authors. Sponsored by Book Depository, they include Will Dean, Natasha Pulley, Steven Erikson, Carl-Johan Forssen Ehrlin and Emma Newman.

4. Go green

The Hong Kong Book Fair 2019 encourages a green lifestyle, so remember to bring your own shopping bags and water bottles (drinking machines are available inside the fair).

Also, be sure to bring plenty of green (aka. cash) as most of the exhibitors accept cash only.

5. Speed delivery service

Splurged on too many books and can't be bothered to carry them home yourself? Head over to the service counter at booth G107, where DHL will deliver the books to your designated address on your behalf.

The service counter is open from 10am to 10pm from July 17-22 and 9am to 5pm on July 23.

Priced at HK$25 for adults and HK$10 for kids, the Hong Kong Book Fair 2019 is open from:

  • July 17-18 from 10am to 10pm
  • July 19-20 from 10am to 11pm/12am
  • July 21-22 from 10am to 10pm
  • July 23 from 9am to 5pm
