Hong Kong Book Fair Rescheduled to July 2021
The change comes in view of the latest pandemic developments in the city. Putting the safety of the public and exhibitors as a top priority as well as the avoiding indoor mass gathering, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and supporting organisations agreed unanimously that there would be a significant risk if the fair goes ahead next month as planned even if precautionary measures are put into place.
Exhibitors who have paid the participation fee will be fully refunded while the discount offer for booth construction will carry on to the fair in July 2021. The HKTDC assures the public that they will be following up with related stakeholders on the new arrangements.
While the physical book fair will now take place next year, a brand new "Book Fair Online" section has been introduced on the fair's website and mobile app to make it easier for bibliophiles to purchase books during the pandemic without leaving their homes. The new section brings together exhibitors' online retail platforms in the "Exhibitor Directory" webpage and allows interested buyers to browse and purchase books and products.
In addition to that, another new section, "A Cultural Journey Online" website has also been set-up to showcase different e-reading resources, museum exhibitions and cultural activities provided by the fair's partners. Popular seminars held at the fair over the past decade are also included in the new section.
The planned theme of the fair is "Inspirational and Motivational Reading" with the tagline, "Reading the World: Inspiring the Mind and Refreshing the Soul" and was set to feature books and authors whose work can encourage and empower readers to face challenges ahead especially during this pandemic.
