March is filled with charity galas, women’s lunches and innovative sustainability festivals. Whether you want to bid on National Geographic photographer Michael Yamashita’s work at the Nature Conservancy Gala or take a walk along Hong Kong’s Peak trail to raise money for AIDS, this is the month to show your support for a great cause:

1. Green Women Festival

When: March 3

What: This is the event for women interested in broadening their understanding of green innovations and gender equality regarding the Sustainable Development Goals. The Green Women Festival allows you to meet like-minded women, bringing together industry leaders, social entrepreneurs, gender equality activists and female innovators. There will be 12 talks, including by the likes of entrepreneur Fanny Moritz, Laurel Chor from the Hong Kong Explorers Initiative and Dana Winograd from Plastic Free Seas.

2. Yan Chai Hospital Charity Ball

When: March 3

What: “Dragon” is the theme of the Yan Chai Hospital Charity Ball, which will see 350 people gather inside the ballroom of the Grand Hyatt on March 3. Highlights of the night will include a series of live performances, a raffle and live and silent auctions, with all funds raised going to the Yan Chai Various Services Fund.

3. Women’s Day Lunch

When: March 8

What: This is Animals Asia’s fourth annual lunch in Hong Kong. Hosted at Esther Sham's French restaurant, Maison Es, enjoy a delicious lunch followed by speeches on the importance of women ‘being the change’ we want to see. Speakers will include prominent figures Tansy Lau-Tom from EcoDrive and Senior Vet Emily Drayton as well to name a few.

4. The AIDS Charity Walk

When: March 10

What: The AIDS Walk by The Society for AIDS Care first began in 2002 and has been going strong ever since. Created to help raise awareness of AIDS/HIV, this event has transformed into a huge global event with millions walking to support the cause.
 
This year, the theme of the walk along the Peak trail is “Say No to Discrimination!” Participants are encouraged to wear masks as a symbol of empathising with the stress of hidden identity due to fear of discrimination.

5. Taikoo Place Red Cross Blood Donation Campaign

When: March 13-15 and 18

What: Over four days, anyone aged 16-65 and weighing over 41kg is welcome to donate blood to the Red Cross at Taikoo Place. The benefits of donating blood are countless, with just one donation able to help at least three patients. Patients range from those with chronic diseases to those in need of surgery due to accidents or illness.
 
You are welcome to reserve a time slot or walk-in, and on the day just bring along your Hong Kong ID card or valid travel documents for registration.

6. Nature Conservancy Gala

When: March 22

What: Live and silent auctions focused on art and wine will feature at the Nature Conservancy gala dinner, held in the ballroom of the Grand Hyatt. Items to go under the hammer include exclusive photos by National Geographic photographer Michael Yamashita, works by emerging artists from Korea, Mainland China and Spain, a range of ultra-luxe experiences, and a selection of wines from some of the world’s finest vineyards, among them 1982 Margaux, Lafite, Ausone and Mouton, and a 1989 Haut-Brion.

The last gala dinner held in Hong Kong by The Nature Conservancy was in 2012, which raised US$6 million (HK$47 million), an amount the organisation hopes to surpass this year.

7. Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups A Cappella Musical Dinner

When: March 25

What: This year’s musical dinner will take place on March 25 at the Hong Kong Country Club, where diners will be entertained by Cluster, a group of Italian singers who have shared the stage with Andrea Bocelli; Upper Structure, a group from Boston’s Berklee College of Music; and Taiwan’s VOX.

All funds raised at the dinner, sponsored by Sino Group’s Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation, will go to the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Group's music education programme for underprivileged children.

8. Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society Celebration

When: March 29

What: The 30th birthday celebration and fundraiser aimed to raise money for the Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society (SLWCS). For over 20 years, they have conducted both award-winning research and conservation focused on mitigating the human and elephant conflict, whilst also working on a variety of other projects including big cat conservation and marine conservation.

Tickets for the celebration will include a traditional buffet-style Sri Lankan dinner, a drink and a $200 donation to SLWCS.
