2. The Great Gatsby

Where: The Hong Kong Academy For Performing Arts

What: F Scott Fitzgerald's gut-wrenching tale of love, excess and obsession comes alive in the Asain premiere of Hong Kong Ballet artistic director Septime Webre's decadent production. 3. Philip Glass' David Bowie

When: February 15

Where: Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium

What: As part of it's Swire Denim Series of concerts, this month the Hong Kong Philharmonic is hosting one of the most avant-garde classical music events in memory: a tribute to David Bowie featuring music written by Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Bryce Dessner of The National and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead. André de Ridder is conducting.

4. Sergei Nakariakov: The Art of the Trumpet

What: The Paris-based Russian virtuoso makes his debut with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta playing two concertos, including Jörg Widmann's highly regarded Ad absurdum.

5. Hong Kong Arts Festival

Where: Various venues

What: The festival delivers the best of drama, music, theatre and much more. Highlights include the play Home by Geoff Sobelle and performances by the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, whose acclaimed founder and choreographer, Lin Hwai-min, is stepping down at the end of the year.

6. Longines Masters of Hong Kong

7. Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon
