With International Women's Day on March 8, we're putting the spotlight on powerhouse females and listing the eight richest women in Hong Kong in 2021

Last week, Forbes released its annual rich list for Hong Kong, detailing the who's who of the city's billionaires. And though only one woman made it into the top ten––Kwong Siu-hing, with a fortune of US$13.4 billion––there are plenty of powerful females to take note of in Hong Kong. With International Women's Day on the horizon, we're breaking down the top eight richest women in the city, from hoteliers to property tycoons, these are the Hong Kong women who made it onto Forbes' Hong Kong’s Richest 2021 list.

1/8 Kwong Siu-hing

Net worth: US$13.4 billion 
What she does: The 92-year-old widow of Sun Hung Kai Properties co-founder, Kwok Tak-seng, served as the company’s chairman from 2008 until 2011 and remains the biggest shareholder.

2/8 Pansy Ho

Net worth: US$4.1 billion 
What she does: The daughter of Macau gaming tycoon Stanley Ho, who passed away in May 2020, Pansy Ho chairs property developer Shun Tak Holdings which runs the Macau ferries and operates a number of luxury hotels. Pansy also has major shareholdings in Macau casino operators MGM China and her late father's SJM.

3/8 Angela Leong

Net worth: US$3.3 billion 
What she does: An elected Macau legislator, Angela Leong is the managing director and largest individual shareholder of casino company SJM Holdings. She is also the fourth wife of Stanley Ho, and has a large portfolio of Hong Kong properties, to which she owes the vast majority of her wealth.

Net worth: US$3.25 billion
What she does: Rita Liu is the co-founder with her late husband, Thomas Liu Lit-ching—with whom she was highschool sweethearts—and chairman of Gale Well Group. The group has a vast Hong Kong property portfolio that includes whole floors in Grand Millennium Plaza, Shun Tak Centre and Lippo Centre, as well as entire buildings such as Austin Plaza and China Insurance Group Building.  

She has been involved with charities for more than 30 years, including APA, Caritas, Yan Chai Hospital, Red Cross and HKU’s medical school.

5/8 Chan Tan Ching-fen

Net worth: US$1.9 billion 
What she does: Chan Tan Ching-fen is the wife of the late Hong Kong property tycoon Chan Tseng-His, and she controls the largest shareholding in Hang Lung Group, which is currently run by her eldest son, Ronnie.

6/8 Zhuo Jun

Net worth: US$1.3 billion 
What she does: Zhuo Jun has had the controlling stake of Shenzhen Kinwong Electronics since in November 2013, which she took over when her husband, Shen Jitang, passed away.

7/8 Vivien Chen

What she does: Vivien Chen is the youngest daughter of late billionaire Chen Din Hwa, and fulfilled her role as chairman of Nan Fung Group—one of the largest business dynasties in Hong Kong––ƒrom 2009 until 2016. She remains an honorary chairman of the privately held group, along with a keen interest in buying commercial properties in Hong Kong and London.

8/8 Pollyanna Chu

Net worth: US$1 billion 
What she does: Pollyanna Chu was Hong Kong's wealthiest woman in 2017 based mainly on her stake in Kingston Financial Group, which she co-founded in the early 1990s. Her net worth peaked at $12 billion in 2018.
