Sure, we love Central and Tsim Sha Tsui. But why not be a tourist in your own city with a staycation at these hotels located off the beaten track? From Hong Kong's coolest quartier to a quiet island, explore a new corner of the city you call home

The Arca, Wong Chuk Hang

Newly opened, The Arca in Wong Chuk Hang features industrial-style interiors softened by muted tones and modern comforts.

The rooms and suites are deliciously spacious, and guests can enjoy The Arca's rooftop infinity pool featuring a mural by local street artist duo, Creative Hustlers, which is just a stone's throw away from a rooftop bar (is it really a staycation if you don't have a drink by the pool?).

The hotel's restaurant, Arca Society, serves a fun menu of Asian and Western dishes, which can be enjoyed in its stylish dining room or out on the lush terrace.

Little Tai Hang

Little Tai Hang sits in the heart of what one of our favourite Hong Kong neighbourhoods. Tai Hang is dotted with interesting, independently owned restaurants, cafe and boutiques.

The boutique hotel's decor is tastefully modern and modest. Spacious rooms bathed in natural light open up to panoramic views of the harbour and Victoria Park on one side, and the architecturally distinctive Lai Tak Tsuen public housing estate (prominently featured in 2017’s Ghost in the Shell) on the landward side—all thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows and low-rise neighbouring buildings.

Rooms vary in size and decor, with plenty of well-designed larger suites and serviced apartments that are great for long-term stays.

Tai O Heritage Hotel

Tai O Heritage Hotel on Lantau Island has done well in preserving its colonial-style architecture. Formerly a marine police station, it was renovated into a nine-room boutique hotel and bestowed the UNESCO Award of Merit for Cultural Heritage Conservation.

The property's original beauty is complemented by the surrounding jungle and views of neighbouring Tai O fishing village. We particularly love the glass-roofed restaurant, Tai O Lookout, which celebrates local ingredients in many of its dishes.

Nina Hotel, Tsuen Wan West

Standing between Tai Mo Shan mountain and the Rambler Channel, Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West is a peaceful respite in one of Hong Kong's most underrated neighbourhoods.

Its bright and elegant guest rooms boast floor-to-ceiling windows with either mountain, sea or city views, it has both indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a huge fitness centre. Don't forget to stop by Nina Patisserie for decadent cakes and pastries—their Napoleons are to die for.

Hyatt Centric, North Point

Part of the newest development in one of Hong Kong's most historic neighbourhoods, Hyatt Centric is a great base for exploring Hong Kong's old and new.

Its prime harbourfront location means stellar views all around, particularly from its expansive rooftop bar and restaurant, Cruise. There's also an infinity pool lined with plush sun loungers, and dog-friendly features for those who can't fathom leaving their fur babies at home.

The Pier, Sai Kung

The Pier has just 40 stylish guest rooms and suites, each with its own private terrace looking out to the ocean. It's a great little hideout if you need some peace—one of very few hotels in Hong Kong where you can fall asleep to the sound of waves and wake up to gorgeous sunrises over the islands.

The Pier's fine dining restaurant, WA-Theater, is an intimate space that serves a seasonal 12-course dinner featuring Japanese ingredients, prepared using French techniques. If you're after something more casual, there's the rooftop garden that's great for dinner and a nightcap under the stars.

Gold Coast Hotel, Tuen Mun

Despite the incredible beaches and islands we have in Hong Kong, quality beachside resorts are near impossible to come by. Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel is arguably the only one that feels like you've been whisked away to the shores of Sanya or Phuket.

There are huge outdoor pools and a nearby beach, three restaurants including an all-you-can-eat buffet, and airy guest rooms with views of the South China Sea.

Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel is as family-friendly as they come, boasting an on-site farm, water park, playground and kids' club, as well as a handful of themed rooms available upon request—including space and pirate-themed rooms.
