There’s something about a glossy coffee table book that expertly straddles the line between literature and visual work of art—especially when it’s coming from one of the world’s most coveted modern artists. The Kaws What Party book, published by Phaidon, promises to do just that by creating a never-before-seen narrative of the artist’s life and works.

“I’m happy to finally be able to share a preview for the new book that goes along with my exhibition What Party at the Brooklyn Museum opening to the public this Friday the 26th,” Kaws said in a statement on Instagram. “Signed editions will be available at the museum once the books arrive!”

Packed with essays by Brooklyn Museum’s senior curator of contemporary art, Eugenie Tsai, and Swedish art curator, Daniel Birnbaum, the coffee table book comes as a work of art in and of its own right. The collaborative work between Phaidon and the Brooklyn Museum will take readers on a journey through the artist’s career—from his early graffiti days to his iconic larger-than-life projects across the globe.

“Drawing from Pop and Neo-Pop traditions, Kaws’s work straddles the line between fine art and popular culture, crossing the mediums of painting, sculpture, and printmaking, along with fashion, merchandise, and vinyl toys,” read a statement via the MoMA Design Store, the sole retailer to carry the book.

“This book, made in close collaboration with the artist, captures his exciting talent as never before, presenting work from across his career and exploring his unique ability to reshape the ways we think about contemporary art and culture today.”

The stunning coffee table book will be available in four different colours: pink, black, yellow, and orange for a retail price of US$59.95. While all editions are currently available to pre-order via the MoMA Design Store website, copies will only begin to ship in June.
