Louis Vuitton Savoir Faire takes place at K11 Musea through October 3

Since its launch in 2012, Louis Vuitton’s Objets Nomades collection of furniture and homeware, all inspired by travel, has consistently produced pieces that blur the line between art and furniture. From the elegant lines of the Ribbon Dance sofa by André Fu to the whimsical Cocoon hanging chair by Fernando and Humberto Campana, Objets Nomades challenges our perceptions of what a sofa, chair and table should look like.

This year, Louis Vuitton showcased its latest creations at the Frieze Los Angeles art fair in February, which includes the Swell Wave shelf by Andrew Kudless, the first American designer to contribute to Objets Nomades. Made from light polished oak held by straps of red leather, the lines of the Swell Wave shelf are based on the look of rocks that have been chiseled away by wind and rain over time.

Another new addition is the Mandala Screen by Italybased design studio Zanellato/Bortotto—a pattern that combines Louis Vuitton’s iconic floral monogram with the mesmerising, geometric pattern of mandalas. Leather strips in dark blue, pastel pink and light grey—a palette inspired by the sunrise and its reflections off the waters of a Venetian lagoon—are worked into a mandala pattern and framed by metal circles for a screen that can easily hold its own as a sculpture.

Objets Nomades’ creations are not limited to the indoors, with the Totem Floral pole by French designer Damien Langlois- Meurinne—a gold-plated pole with arms that support bag-shaped leather hangers—introducing a new way to display potted plants.

The new additions also include designs from Objets Nomades alums, such as the Diamond sofa and chairs by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, a curvy and gravity-defying construct featuring ash-wood laths that form a nest to support cushioned seating. The Campana brothers, the team behind the Cocoon chair and cloud-like Bomboca sofa, are also back this year with their Bulbo chair, an intriguing design made to look like layers of flower petals that curl in to cushion the sitter for hours on end.
