The 2022 EQS electric sedan is set to arrive in dealerships as soon as fall 2021

Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled its most sustainable luxury vehicle to date. The Mercedes EQS is set to be the all-electric counterpart to the Mercedes S-Class sedan—and the first fully electric luxury class vehicle the German marque has released thus far.

“The EQS is designed to exceed the expectations of even our most discerning customers. That's exactly what a Mercedes has to do to earn the letter ’S’ in its name. Because we don't award that letter lightly,” explained Ola Källenius, CEO of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG in a press release.

Designed for comfort and roominess, the EQS will push boundaries when it comes to its all-electric architecture. The completely new concept will feature a comfortable cab-forward design that will ensure it’s clearly distinguishable from other electric vehicles on the market—even at first glance.

Interestingly, the EQS will also feature a “Power Nap” option that will encourage drivers to get some shut eye during particularly long road trips or during charging periods. The seat will automatically recline into a resting position while the windows and sunshade across the glass roof are dimmed. Interior lighting and temperature will also be adjusted accordingly to create a comfortable atmosphere and relaxing sounds will play from the stereo while images of a night sky appear on the dash.

In terms of interior, the Mercedes EQS will come equipped with an optional touchscreen system that will span across the entire dashboard—from the driver’s window to the passenger side—that would take the place of traditional wood or leather material.

“With our EQS, we have created a completely new, future generation of luxury cars. Based on our style of sensual purity, we create desire by combining a beautifully seductive sculpture with the most progressive proportion,” added Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler Group. “Key features such as the 'one-bow' design and a holistically integrated, highly reduced and seamless styling gives the EQS its sporty and progressive look. That's what sets it apart from any other vehicle we have ever created—that's what makes our EQS so extraordinary.”

Interested in finding out more about the first luxury class Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle? While examples won’t be hitting dealerships until much later this year, more information (including how to reserve a model) is available on the official Mercedes-Benz website.
