The up-and-coming New York-based artist exhibits new works in her first Hong Kong solo exhibition

New York-based artist Miya Ando will debut some of her new work in an exhibition titled Light Metal at her first solo exhibition in Hong Kong with the Sundaram Tagore gallery. Ando, raised among sword smiths and Buddhist priests in a temple in Okayama, Japan now works in Brooklyn combining traditional techniques with modern technology, skillfully transforming sheets of steel and anodised aluminium into abstract installations.
Her minimalistic work is highly complex as she produces light-reflecting gradients on her metal paintings by applying heat, sandpaper, grinders, acid and patinas. She builds her work on the premise of transformation and results are ethereal, minimalistic landscapes of metallic horizons.
