Top of the list when it comes to the most sought-after residential locations in Hong Kong is The Peak.

"The Peak is historically regarded as the most prestigious location where the tai-pans [business executives] used to live. Due to the building height restriction, most properties in the area are townhouses and low-rise units along with a number of exclusive detached houses, all enjoying exquisite harbour or south island sea views," explains KS Koh, CEO of Landscope, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate in Hong Kong.

Franky Cho, Chief Operating Officer of List Sotheby’s International Realty also regards The Peak to be "one of the most affluent residential areas in Hong Kong". The landscape, views and convenience all help to make the area desirable, with its "peaceful tree-lined streets" and "exclusive real estate" drawing in discerning buyers.

Koh adds: "Just 15 minutes away from the Central Business District, the area is conveniently located and well-served by the Peak Tram, buses and minibuses. Shops, supermarkets and a selection of restaurants are available on The Peak. The neighbourhood offers a green environment with many scenic walks, as well as cooler summer temperatures." Luxe facilities are also to be expected, with "many of the developments coming with communal facilities such as swimming pool, tennis court or gymnasium."

A key property which is currently up for sale at The Peak is 7 Pollock's Path. The 3,649 square-foot family home not only features four bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms, along with spacious living and dining areas, but also its own private outdoor lap pool, terrace and rooftop, all with spectacular views of the city skyline and Victoria Harbour. The property is currently on the market for HK$886,000,000 (US$114,319,630).

"Tucked away on Hong Kong's south side, Repulse Bay is not only a popular summer weekend hang-out for the city dwellers, but also a top residential choice for many of Hong Kong's well-heeled", says Koh.

If you're looking for stunning sea views and that holiday feeling all year round, it's worth looking at properties in the area. Koh describes Repulse Bay as having "a distinctive resort-like vibe with its pristine crescent of sand and palm trees".

The area's properties earn their high price tags due to the "combination of luxury high-rises and townhouses, most with commanding views over the bay and the South China Sea beyond." Koh also notes that "clean air, outdoor space for children, and proximity to the Hong Kong International School's junior and senior facilities" all make Repulse Bay popular with young expatriate families.

Currently on the market is Belleview Place in Repulse Bay. The 2,533 square-foot property features four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, with a spacious terrace and private balcony offering gorgeous Repulse Bay sea views. The property is on the market for HK$200,000,000 (US$25,805,786).

Cho also mentions The Southside as among the most exclusive Hong Kong neighbourhoods for its "beautiful ocean views with coveted beach villas". The area also boasts "private members’ clubs such as The American Club, Country Club and Hong Kong Golf Club, which are all located nearby.

Located just five minutes from Stanley, this Penthouse has unobstructed sea views, a relaxing rooftop garden and an extended balcony. Currently for sale, the price of the 1,290 square-foot property is available upon request.

"Primarily considered as a residential area, Mid-Levels Hong Kong apartments offer an epitome of hillside lifestyle", explains Cho. "Although several historical developments in Mid-Levels have been replaced by high-rise condominiums, the remnants of a bygone era remain in the carved stairways and stone bridges. Island School, the Central Business District, malls and nightlife are all within a short distance via the Mid-Levels escalator."

Key features of the affluent area are its convenient location, spacious and modern apartments and proximity to lush green landscapes.

Speaking of the exclusive neighbourhood, Koh states "as an affluent residential area, the neighbourhood is populated by the middle class and expat professionals predominantly with residential high-rises. Despite the density, apartments are generally airy, spacious and fully fitted with fixtures. Lower complexes enjoy city views, while higher floors may have views over the harbour with lush-green landscape at the rear."

2,240 square-foot Kenne Mansion is currently on the market in the Mid-Levels and features three bedrooms, two en-suites and one further bathroom, along with a combined living and dining room, balcony, and both city and mountain views.

Also on the market in the residential area is this contemporary apartment in Kennedy Park. Featuring breathtaking views of the city skyline, the apartment has two large bedrooms and two smaller bedrooms, along with great facilities in the luxurious clubhouse and easy access to all the amenities in Central and Wan Chai.
