With Night in Paradise and Space Sweepers hitting our Netflix screens, the screaming giant shows no signs of spotting down when it comes to Korean movies—they did, after all, pledge US$500 million on Korean content including Korean dramas. Their latest offering is the romantic comedy, Sweet & Sour which premieres on June 4.

Romance is king when it comes to Korean storylines and Sweet & Sour promises not only to bring heart-fluttering moments but also heart-wrenching moments of heartbreak. Haven't watched the movie yet? 1. The plot

Sweet & Sour is a refreshingly realistic romantic comedy that depicts both the bliss of being in love as well as the tough times in a relationship. The movie follows Jang Hyeok and Jung Da-eun, who become a long-distance couple when Jang gets a new job opportunity. Their once sweet relationship changes as the distance impact them in more ways than one.

In his new job, Jang faces temptation when his new colleague, Han Bo-yeong shows interest in him. While he initially rejects her advances, he's clearly affected by her as he mistakenly calls his girlfriend by Han's name.

Will Jang and Jung's love stand the test of time? Or rather the distance? Or will he choose the new girl that he can't seem to take off his mind?

Watch out for the twist at the end. It left many curious and torn.

2. The cast

Sweet & Sour boasts a star-studded love triangle—Jang Ki-yong as Jang Hyuk, Chae Soo-bin as Jung Dae-eun and Krystal Jung as Han Bo-yeong.

This is proving to be a big year of Jang, who's currently starring in My Roommate Is A Gumiho with Hyeri and soon with Song Hye-kyo in Now We Are Breaking Up. The 2019 Baeksang Arts Award Best New Actor has always taken up serious roles from his lead role debut in Come and Hug Me to Born Again.

Meanwhile, Chae Soo-bin who's no stranger to the romance genre is further showcasing her acting prowess as Jung Dae-eun. Krystal Jung, member of former girl group, f(x) is also upping her acting range following 2018's Player and 2020's Search in her role as Han Bo-yeong.

3. The director

Sweet & Sour is helmed by director Lee Gye-byeok and while he doesn't have a lot of high-profile movies under his belt, he did serve as an assistant director to the cult classic, Old Boy (2003) with acclaimed director Park Chan-wook—a far cry from Sweet & Sour.

Lee's previous directing work including Cheer Up Mr. Lee (2019), Luck-Key (2016) and The Beast and the Beauty (2005).

4. Netflix over theatres

Like many other Korean films that are supposed to come out in 2020 like Night in Paradise and Space Sweepers, Sweet & Sour was originally slated for a theoretical release. But because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was ultimately released on Netflix.

5. It's based on a novel

Sweet & Sour is based on the Japanese novel, Initiation Love by Kurumi Inui which is also his most important work to date. The novel first actually got a Japanese movie adaptation of the same name in 2015.
