1. The Holiday Movies That Made Us

Coming December 1, get into the festive spirit with a behind-the-scenes look into the making of two iconic Christmas movies.

Split into two episodes, this special holiday edition of the popular The Movies That Made Us series covers the development and release of two holiday classics: Elf and The Nightmare Before Christmas, including insider interviews and exclusive footage.

Release date: December 1

2. Mank

Seen through the eyes of alcoholic screenwriter Herman J Mankiewicz (Gary Oldman), Mank is the latest release from director David Fincher.

Said to be the director's social critique of 1930s Hollywood, the story centres on the life of Mankiewicz as he writes Citizen Kane, focusing on the problems that arose with Orson Welles during production and leading up to the film's release.

Along with Oldman, the new release co-stars Amanda Seyfried, Lily Collins and more.

Release date: December 4

3. Detention

A Taiwanese supernatural horror drama, Detention, tells the story of a student who uncovers unsettling secrets at her remote high school in the 1990s.

Based on the video game of the same name, the series follows transfer student Yunxiang Liu (Lingwei Lee) as she enters a forbidden area of the school grounds and encounters a ghost who reveals the hidden history of the school from the past 30 years.

Release date: December 5

4. The Prom

This American musical comedy marks Glee creator Ryan Murphy's Netflix debut.

Based on the popular Broadway musical of the same name, The Prom stars big names such as Meryl Streep, James Cordan, Nicole Kidman and more, as it follows a group of down-on-their-luck Broadway stars as they shake up a small Indiana town and rally behind a teen who wants to attend prom with her girlfriend.

Release date: December 11

5. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

Starring the late Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is based on August Wilson’s award-winning play, which tells the story of real-life blues singer, Ma Rainey.

Directed by George C Wolfe and produced by Denzel Washington, the film centres on a fateful recording session of the "Mother of the Blues" in 1927 Chicago, with tensions rising when the singer engages in a battle of wills with her white manager and producer over control of her music. 

Release date: December 18

6. The Midnight Sky

The Midnight Sky is a post-apocalyptic tale directed by and starring George Clooney.

Hitting Netflix on December 23, the film follows a lone scientist in the Arctic as he races to stop a crew of astronauts from returning home after a global catastrophe.

Co-starring  Felicity Jones and David Oyelowo.

Release date: December 23

7. Bridgerton

Coming this Christmas Day, Bridgerton is a new period drama based on Julia Quinn's best-selling romance novels.

Revolving around a well-to-do family in Regency-era London, all eight episodes of the series will be released on December 25, portraying the story of the eight close-knit Bridgerton siblings as they look for look for love and happiness––ensuring plenty of scandal and whit along the way.
