Anne Wang-Liu, philanthropist and mother of two shares with us her favourite family moments and how she owns her moment

A familiar face on Hong Kong’s social circle, Anne Wang-Liu takes as much pride in her influential roles in philanthropy as she does for being a mother of her beautiful daughters, Madeleine,14, and Audrey, 12.

An avid ballet dancer, Anne champions arts education as co-chair of Hong Kong Ballet Guild and a member of the board of governors of the Hong Kong Ballet to make ballet accessible to underprivileged children. Dedicating much of her post-banking life to philanthropic work, Anne works closely with Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre to provide free practical, emotional and psychosocial support for cancer patients and their families.

What are your proudest moments as a mother of two and a philanthropist?

Growing up, I was always taught that we should always make time and a point of giving back to the less fortunate and I’m proud that my daughters have grasped this at such an early stage of their lives. Everyone is busy and always has a million things going on constantly, whether it’s work, school, family and friends—but I’ve made it a point in our family to make time to help those in need—and I’m proudest when I see my two girls taking it upon themselves to help others.

BMW X7 is about making “every day legendary”. What do you think are the keys to live in the moment?

Whether you realise it or not, life has a way of passing you by—so I think it’s important to seize the day and make it your own and create lots of happy memories along the way. In order to make every day legendary, it’s important to celebrate the highs, whether that’s good grades or achieving a personal milestone. In an age of social media, it can be tricky to really live in the present, but I always remind myself not to dwell on the past or overthink the future—I always try to live in the moment.

What do you wish your daughters to remember about growing up?

As a family we love to travel and we’re lucky enough to have explored different parts of the world and I hope that’s what the girls remember the most, having the ability to explore the world at an early age but also being able to do so as a family, being able to spend quality time together—I hope it’s something they remember because I treasure those memories together.

What are some of the most treasured memories you have as a family?

It’s actually the quieter moments that I treasure the most, sitting together and making s’mores after skiing or looking up at the stars by the campfire in the countryside, it’s these moments that tend to center you as a person and brings you closer together as a family.

When you’re not travelling, where’s your favourite spots to spend the weekend?

I think any parent will attest that once you have children—your weekends revolve around them. Our weekends are usually spent ferrying the girls to and from different activities or appointments and when we’re not doing that I just enjoy driving them with their music playing and they’ll sing along to their favourite song—if we’re in the mood to indulge it will be a staycation at the Island Shangri-La or afternoon tea at Island Gourmet.
