Christie’s “VICE” and “VIRTUE” lot will range from post-war to more contemporary art.

Christie’s has recently launched a new collection of thematic online-only auctions featuring the “two opposing sides of human nature”. Respectively titled “VICE” and “VIRTUE,” the auctions will feature a range of post-war and contemporary works of art by well-known and celebrated international artists.

“We're excited to announce the launch of VICE and VIRTUE, a series of thematic online sales of Post-War and Contemporary Art that speak to our collective reality during this time of global interruption,” the auction house said in a statement on Instagram.

Highlights of the sale will include Roy Lichtenstein’s Ceramic Sculpture 13,” which is expected to fetch up to US$500,000 and KAWS‘s “KAWSBOB (OPEN MOUTH), PACKAGE PAINTING SERIES,” which is set to realise up to US$150,000.

There will also be two works by Andy Warhol, including “Work Boots (Positive),” a silkscreen ink on canvas and “Electric Chair (Retrospective Series) as well as Keith Haring’s “Untitled (Knokke for Monique XXX),” a terracotta vase expected to realise US$150,000.

“Celebrating the human desire for escapism, VICE provides a reprieve from our new reality with offerings by Barbara Kruger, Richard Prince, KAWS, and other artists who capture the essence of hedonistic pursuits.” the auction house explained, “Whereas VIRTUE focuses on the idea of virtue as a creative escape with work that plays with visual iterations of the seven virtues (prudence, fortitude, temperance, justice, faith, hope, and love).”

Beginning with VICE, the online exclusive auction is running from now until May 27 and continuing with VIRTUE from May 29 to June 12. A viewing room for “VICE” and “VIRTUE” is currently available on Christie’s website.
