The tropical beauty of Hainan Island has long made it a paradise for golfers and vacationers alike, but the opening of The Ritz-Carlton, Haikou is expected to usher in a new era of luxury leisure.  A product of the partnership between Ritz-Carlton and Mission Hills, the newest member of the Ritz-Carlton domain is positioned upon the world-renowned Mission Hills Golf Club.

President and Chief Operation Officer of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Hervé Humler expressed his excitement for the location of the latest opening: "The island is rich in culture and off-the-beaten track experiences that reflects a China many have not seen, making it and ideal spot... to travel and explore." Hainan Island is often likened to the Hawaii of China, featuring a striking landscape of rocky outcrops and lush vegetation. Missions Hills Golf Club itself is built on top a bedrock of ancient lava from extinct volcanoes.

As the largest golf course in the world, The Ritz-Carlton, Haikou gives a whole new meaning to the luxury of golf. The hotel itself, created by architects AECOM and interior designers HBA Los Angeles, pays homage to the heritage of golf by emulating a design reminiscent of an elegant golf clubhouse.

The inspiration of golf is present throughout the hotel—antique leather furnishings evoke vintage golfing bags, while tartan flooring brings to mind Scotland, the origin of golf. The private patio of the hotel’s rooftop Flair Bar overlooks the golf course, meals are prepared by world-class chefs to be enjoyed with a broad selection of single-malt whiskies and cigars and musical entertainment includes the notes of a Scottish bagpiper.

According to Humler, “Hainan Island is one of the most exciting emerging destinations in Asia-Pacific today. With our partners, Mission Hills Group, we have created one of the most immersive golf and leisure travel experiences anywhere in the world.”
