Ultra Violet: The Colour You'll Be Seeing Everywhere In 2018
December 11, 2017 | BY Claudia Cheung
Bright and complex, this year's Pantone colour has been revealed
Every year, Pantone's group of experts review the industries of beauty, fashion, technology, food and more to select the colour they've seen the most, and to use this colour as a visual representation to push forward in the world of trends and design.
This year, the Pantone Color Institute announced that the colour of 2018 is the bright purple shade that Prince adored—and that is a favourite amongst Royals—PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet.
"It's the most complex of all colours,” Leatrice Eiseman, the institute’s executive director, told The New York Times. “It takes two shades that are seemingly diametrically opposed—blue and red—and brings them together to create something new.”
A symbol of originality, visionary thinking and non-conformity, Pantone chose the galaxy-like shade to inspire hope for the upcoming year, to push creative boundaries and to head straight into the unknown. And after the whirlwind year that we've had, we could all certainly use a little more zen and a little more fun in 2018.
