Virgin Atlantic has officially announced its plan to resume commercial flights, with services ranging from London Heathrow to Orlando, Hong Kong, Shanghai, New York JFK and Los Angeles starting late next month.

The UK-based airline plans to steadily increase passenger flights around the world throughout the second half of the year as countries around the world begin deconfinement and relaxed travel restrictions, with a “gradual recovery” set through 2021 depending on market interest.

“As the Covid-19 crisis stabilises and demand slowly returns, we are looking forward to welcoming our customers back onboard and flying them safely to their favourite destinations,” said Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Atlantic in a press release. “To ensure the health and safety of our customers and our people, we’re introducing new measures at every point in the journey to offer peace of mind when taking to the skies with us.”

In line with public health requirements, Virgin Atlantic has updated its health and safety procedures to include mandatory face mask requirements, temperature checks at airports before boarding, and sanitary health packages available to all passengers, which will include a face mask, wipes, and hand gel. Travellers will also have limited contact with cabin crew throughout the flight.

“Our planned first flights will be to Orlando and Hong Kong on the 20th July, however, we are monitoring external conditions extremely closely, in particular the travel restrictions many countries have in place including the 14 day quarantine policy for travellers entering the UK,” Jarvinen added.

Virgin Atlantic will continue to announce more destination restart dates in the coming weeks for the month of August and beyond.
