The Polestar Precept represents the automaker’s vision for the future

Volvo’s premium division has unveiled a surprisingly realistic concept car that places emphasis on sustainable materials and cutting edge HMI technology.

Named to emphasise the brand’s new aspirations as it shifts to a leading, contemporary electric performance brand, a “precept” is a manifesto of things to come while reemphasizing Polestar’s standalone brand values: pure, progressive and performance.

“Precept is a declaration, a vision of what Polestar stands for and what makes the brand relevant,” Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar said in a press release. “The car is a response to the clear challenges our society and industry face. This is not a dream of a distant future, Polestar Precept previews future vehicles and shows how we will apply innovation to minimise our environmental impact.”

Rather than focusing simply on minimising consumption, the EV concept prioritises a marriage of sustainability and minimal environmental impact with cutting-edge tech and luxury. The flax-based composites for the interior panels and seatbacks, for example, boast up to 80% reduction of plastic waste compared to a standard Polestar vehicle. What’s more, the seat surfaces are 3D-knitted from recycled bottles, while the headrests are made from recycled cork vinyl.

In order to ensure a premium tech experience, the Polestar Precept’s HMI technology is powered by Android, and includes an enlarged, portrait-oriented 15-inch centre touch screen, a 12.5-inch driver display and the real kicker: a holographic Polestar emblem that floats inside a solid piece of Swedish crystal between the rear seat headrests.

“At Polestar we see technology as an enabler, as a tool to solve our society’s problems and we translated this attitude into a new set of design principles. The combination of sustainable materials and high-tech smart systems opens an entirely new chapter of avant-garde luxury design and shows where Polestar is heading.” said Maximilian Missoni, Head of Design at Polestar.

The Polestar Precept will be officially unveiled to the public at the Geneva International Motor Show next month.
