From a beach gong bath, to aerial yoga over Hong Kong’s sparkling waters, here are the best wellness events to check out this August 2021

Looking for the best wellness events in town? Welcome back to our monthly series where we round up the best health and wellness events in Hong Kong.

From an astrology workshop at The Hive, to aerial yoga at the beach, here are all the events happening in August.

1. Beach Gong Bath by Red Doors Studio

When: August 4, 6:30pm to 7:30pm

Where: Deep Water Bay 

What: Wong Chuk Hang’s gong bath and meditation studio, Red Doors Studio organises a monthly beach gong bath session on the first Wednesday of each month. You’ll be able to watch the sunset and relax to the sounds of the gong at the beach. Participants will have to bring a yoga mat, blanket, eye cover and a water bottle to the beach.

2. Hormonal Health Chat by Luuna Naturals

When: August 4, 7:30pm to 9:30pm

Where: Joint Dynamics, 59-65 Queen's Road Central, Central

What: Eco-friendly period care company, Luuna Naturals will be organising a panel discussion in collaboration with Joint Dynamics and Sweaty Betty, bringing together four health experts to discuss all things related to hormonal health. 

In this panel discussion, the experts will talk about the four stages of the menstrual cycle, what effects they have on our bodies and minds, and go over tools that may help manage hormones during each phase. Period myths surrounding menstruation and exercise, nutrition advice and pelvic health advice will also be discussed.

3. Emotional Wellbeing For Parent & Child by Compassion Culture and Sana Space

When: August 7, 2pm to 2:30pm

Where: Sana, 2/f, 6 On Wo Lane, Sheung Wan

What: Newly opened wellness studio, Sana Space will be hosting their first-ever workshop in collaboration with Kellie Wong of Compassion Culture. Designed for parents and children aged 3 to 7, the workshop will go through breathing techniques, light movements, crafts, as well as communication tools that’ll encourage better communication between parents and children. Participants will be able to bring home a deck of mindful habit cards and a pocket-sized crystal at the end of the session.

4. Sai Kung Geopark Paddle by Get High

When: August 14, 9am to 4pm

Where: Sai Kung Geopark

What: Organised by Get High, a hiking and outdoor adventure guide, they’ll be organising a six-hour kayaking trip around Sai Kung Geopark, bringing you around hidden beaches and islands that are only accessible through private boats and kayaks. On the day, instructor Sion Bennett will guide the group to pristine locations such as a mangrove, a tombolo and caves.

5. Astrology Workshop by The Kingdom Healer and The Hive

When: August 25, 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Where: The Hive Sheung Wan, 33-35 Hillier Street, Sheung Wan

What: Spiritual counsellor, astrologer and tarot card reader, Letao Wong of The Kingdom Healer will be hosting an astrology workshop at The Hive Sheung Wan this month. The workshop will be broken down into two parts: a 30-minute presentation and a Q&A workshop where Wong will focus on the cosmos energy flow and teach you how to become more in tune with your own spirituality, followed by short, individual readings for participants.

6. 5 Senses Silent Retreat by Vata Yoga

When: August 27-29

Where: Cheung Chau, Hong Kong

What: Leave your city stress behind at Vata Yoga’s 5 Senses Silence Retreat at Cheung Chau. Participants will be encouraged to use their five senses and keep a silent practice for the entire duration of the retreat. For activities, you can look forward to different types of meditation such as drawing meditation, outdoor walking meditation, sunrise meditation, as well as non-meditation activities including singing bowl, stretching and yoga.

7. Beach Aerial Yoga Workshop by Bamboo Yoga

When: August 8, 29 

Where: Begins at White Yoga, Kwun Tong

What: Bamboo Yoga’s three-part workshop includes an hour-long aerial yoga class at White Yoga where you’ll learn the basics of aerial yoga, followed by a short hike from Sai Wan Pavilion to the beach, and finally, the highly-anticipated aerial yoga on the beach. By the end of the workshop, participants can choose to take a boat back to Sai Kung or hike back to Sai Wan.
