Heading to the slopes for the first time? Here’s all you need to know about renting your gear
While skiing and snowboarding are some of the most exciting winter activities to take part in, it’s also a costly sport—especially in terms of luggage space. A trip to the slopes means packing a fair bit of gear, from skis and poles to ski jackets and helmets. With so much to bring, it can be overwhelming if you have not been to the slopes before. So, if you would rather not lug your equipment to your destination, the next best alternative is to rent.
Fortunately, resorts and local ski shops tend to offer ski equipment rentals, making it easy for us to rent our gear. However, as not all rental shops carry the same equipment and accessories, it’s important to call ahead and check if what you need is in stock.
If it’s your first time renting gear, here are some things to look out for before doing so.

Boots
When renting boots, it’s important to find a pair that fits your feet well. There’s nothing worse than skiing with scrunched feet and blistered ankles. Pick a pair that will keep your ankles and feet fixed as it will help minimise the risk of injuries. If you will be wearing thick socks on the slopes, it’s better to choose a size slightly larger than your regular shoe size. Find out if your boots fit by getting into a skiing position and ensure that there is no discomfort.
