Cover Co-founder of CruCycle Bebe Ding shares her favourite spots around Los Angeles

From her favourite brunch spot to retail therapy destinations, this fitness guru shows us the coolest spots to be at in LA

Growing up, Beatrice “Bebe” Ding spent most of her childhood travelling between Los Angeles and Singapore. So it’s no surprise that the Californian city has a special place in her heart—On top of living there, the fitness-driven city had also inspired her and her siblings to start the cult favourite spin studio CruCycle.

When it comes to finding the coolest spots in LA, Ding is the one to ask. Below, she shares some of her favourite places to be at in the vibrant city.

Favourite brunch spot?
Gjelina in Venice is a must‐visit every time I go back to LA. Located on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in a cosy and rustic setting, it serves simple Californian food that is made skilfully and beautifully. Besides the wood‐fired pizzas and heartier meat dishes such as pork meatballs, duck confit, pan‐seared steaks and beef cheek orecchiette, each one of its vegetable dishes is, quite frankly, a star. Brunch and LA sunshine are synonymous, so I also have to recommend the oceanside Malibu Farm; Salt’s Cure for oatmeal griddle cakes; Superba in Hollywood for a courtyard vibe with an extensive menu and an oyster bar; as well as Polo Lounge in The Beverly Hills Hotel and The Tower Bar in Sunset Tower Hotel for a classic Hollywood‐style ambience.

Best place for views?
These spots let you pretty much just soak in unobstructed views of the city: Soho House West Hollywood, Casa Madera and The West Hollywood Edition hotel’s rooftop bar.

Favourite date spot?
I recommend a quick sunset hike in Franklin Canyon Park, followed by dinner at 715 Sushi, Madeo, Damian, Via Veneto, Il Pastaio, Chi Spacca or Saffy’s. Later, have drinks at The Nice Guy, The Tower Bar or Little Beach House Malibu, or enjoy a concert at Hollywood Bowl. However, what’s also synonymous with LA is traffic. If it’s your first date or you’re uncertain how much time you want to spend with someone, maybe just pick one.

Favourite bar or club for a good time?
LA is great for a night out as there’s somewhere to go to any day of the week, and the bar and club scene is unique in the sense that the concepts constantly change. Delilah and Bootsy Bellows are my current picks.

Favourite place to work out?
Recently, I’ve been going to Heated Room a lot, but I also try to hike as much as I can because the beautiful southern California landscape and weather is what I miss the most when I’m in Singapore.

Best places to get fresh air?
I make a journey to Point Dume or Solstice Canyon in Malibu. The ocean is always healing for me. I also have a couple of secret spots up in the canyons of Beverly Hills.

Favourite retail therapy destinations?
Melrose Avenue, Maxfield, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Abbot Kinney Boulevard. I’m also waiting for the full revival of Robertson Boulevard.

Dream location for your next birthday celebration?
Calamigos Ranch in Malibu is on my bucket list. Can you tell I’m a Malibu junkie?

If you could purchase a building in LA, what would it be?
Chateau Marmont, the Eastern Columbia Building in downtown LA, or the Stahl House.

Where do you feel most at home in LA?
Erewhon. In all seriousness, I’m a food nerd.
