The property will be the first and only hotel wholly designed by the late fashion mogul known for his work with Chanel and Fendi
The late German designer Karl Lagerfeld may be gone, but he’s certainly not forgotten.
Hot off the heels of the 2023 Met Gala, where the theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”, the latest homage to Lagerfeld comes in the form of a five-star hotel in Macau.
The Karl Lagerfeld, a 271-key property that will be part of the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort, which is owned and operated by SJM Resorts, is set to open in June 2023. It will be the world’s first and only hotel wholly designed by Lagerfeld.

Just as he was known for his meticulous attention to detail as the creative powerhouse behind brands Fendi and Chanel, the designer spent years poring over every detail of the hotel’s interiors – from the custom headboards inspired by auspicious Chinese coins to porcelain vases handmade in Jingdezhen, chandeliers by Terzani, and sculptures by artists Marcel Wanders and Jean-Michel Othoniel.
There’s also The Book Lounge in the lobby, featuring 4000 titles selected by 7L Bookshop, which is owned by the designer. The spectacular collection of books is stacked on soaring floor-to-ceiling shelves, resembling Lagerfeld’s famed personal library at his studio.
