If you’re going to splurge on travel, spending a few days sailing to some of Asia’s most spectacular islands on a chartered yacht is the way to do it

It’s a wonderful feeling to know there’s nothing you need to do, and nowhere you need to be, and few experiences offer this like a few days on board a beautiful chartered yacht, with sparkling water all around you, and a gorgeous sunset against the endless horizon.

Not to mention it’s an experience that ticks off some of the top travel trends for 2023 (and beyond, if you ask us) – slow travel, going off the grid, and being close to nature. What else can be better?

A helipad, a spa equipped with a sauna and plunge pool, even a working fireplace - this multi-award-winning superyacht is full of surprises both big and small. Many of those awards are for its design, which deviates from traditional yacht stylings, opting instead for a Scandi-chic aesthetic – think muted tones, seductive textiles and quality woodwork.

The 75-metre Cloudbreak can accommodate up to 12 guests in its six stylish cabins, with plenty on board to keep them entertained. From beautiful dining, living and lounging spaces to its exceptionally well-equipped beach club: think jet-skis, wake boards, windsurfers, kayaks and more.

Cloudbreak sails in Myanmar, Thailand and the Philippines throughout the year, adding Papua New Guinea to its itinerary during the summer season from May to September.

Island-hopping, but make it Aman with Amandira, the luxury hotel brand’s private yacht. Inspired by the phinisi trading ships of the 20th century, the 52-metre twin-masted ship was custom-designed and handcrafted from local hardwoods by Konjo artisans.

On board and at your disposal is a crew of 14, including two chefs, a massage therapist, and a dive master.

Translating from Sanskrit as “Peaceful Intrepid”, Amandira moves gently through the Indonesian archipelago, allowing guests to discover its hidden beaches and thriving wildlife.

The five-cabin yacht can be hired at a nightly rate, or for the six-night Journey Across the Sea package. The charter begins at Amankila, a resort that stretches across the Lombok Strait coastline beneath Mount Agung. Guests then sail for a three-night journey to Amanwana, the only resort on Moyo Island, for two nights of glamping in its over-the-top luxury tents.

Bright indoor and outdoor seating areas with upholstery in classic nautical shades of white and deep blue, magnificent staterooms and plenty of places to soak up the sun, this 39-metre yacht has all the makings of a luxury vessel and then some.

Lady Azul was built to entertain. At sea level there’s a large beach club with a swim deck and an impressive collection of water toys ranging from sea bobs to an inflatable banana, as well as full diving and fishing equipment. There’s even an on-board karaoke machine.

And good thing there’s a gym on board – at the helm of Lady Azul’s kitchen is Chef Ko, formerly of the Andaman Beach Suites in Phuket, who’s well versed in a wide range of European and Asian cuisines.

Choose from a selection of itineraries, which range from Phuket to Langkawi, or speak with the team to design your own.

Sililona

Silolona, with its dramatic black sails, makes quite the impression as it weaves its way through the Indonesian islands. A contemporary take on the traditional Indonesian sailing ship, the 50-metre luxury wooden schooner was built by Sulawesi craftsmen and is fitted with all the right modern comforts, like air conditioning in each stateroom.

There are five in total, along with common spaces like the spectacular teak deck built for al fresco dining, sunbathing and stargazing.

Itineraries can be customized according to your interest – whether that’s diving in kimodo or a cultural sojourn in Papua.

In fact, when Tatler interviewed actress Susan Sarandon TKTK, she told us that her time on board Silolona is one of her most memorable trips, saying, “[We] went through the Ring of Fire, which was just extraordinary. It was a once- in- a- lifetime kind of trip that I took with a few friends. I slept on deck, watched the sunrise and sunset and went snorkelling with whale sharks.”

Silolona sails according to the seasons – sailing in Indonesia from April to November, before sailing up to the West Coast of Malaysia, Thailand and up to Myanmar from December to March.
