As Mercury goes retrograde, Tatler’s astrologer Casey Chan asks us to buckle up for some big shake-ups this week
Buckle up! This week not only marks the beginning of eclipse season, but also when Mercury goes retrograde, and the Sun enters the sign of earthy Taurus.
This solar eclipse on April 20 is the second new moon in a row in the sign of confident Aries. Sitting at 29 degrees, there is an invitation for us to embrace unavoidable endings and for us to “begin again”. Eclipses usher in significant changes, so we can expect big shake-ups in our lives, where anything that no longer serve us must go. At the same time, we may also find that aligned new opportunities are falling into our laps. Make use of this supercharged new moon to reflect on your sense of self, which is an Aries gift—what is a new identity that is emerging in you? What is an old way of being that simply does not ring true anymore?
Shortly after the new moon, we have the Sun entering Taurus, which helps to stabilise whatever new intentions we have set for ourselves. The past Aries season initiated us into something new and bold. Now, it is time to embody this new chapter. On April 21, Mercury goes retrograde in the sign of Taurus. During this time, reflect on things that you value and review your relationship to money and resources. If you can, put any new projects or agreements on hold until Mercury goes direct again on May 15, providing you with the clarity you need to make good decisions.
