How do we balance wildlife conservation with urban development?

As Hong Kong sweats its way through another week of constant drizzle and humidity, even the birds flying past Tatler Hong Kong headquarters look ladened with the heaviness in the air. Seeing them soar by, though, is a good reminder of just how many wild animals call this bustling city their home as well. And Bosco Chan, the new director of conservation at WWF-Hong Kong, is acutely aware of the need to balance preserving our precious species with mega development plans, such as Lantau Tomorrow and Northern Metropolis.

Balance has been my personal mantra this week, and it’s also inadvertently become the theme of this week’s newsletter:
