Pamela Tan transforms her passion for spatial design into exquisite works of art

Known for ethereal art installations such as Eden and Endless Frames, Pamela Tan only started exploring her artistic side when she went to London to study for her Masters in Architecture. “The way they taught architecture was very diverse. We were required to look at literature, art... They pushed us to look at different areas,” she says. “Many of the architects there also designed bridges, buses, jewellery, carpets. Some of them did art and installations, so it made me think, ‘Oh yeah, why not?’.”

That decision has led her to establish a name for herself in the realm of public art, with one of her latest being Sunnyside Up, an installation that jazzes up a rather redundant staircase at Pasar Seni MRT station in Kuala Lumpur. In this digital cover story, Tan shares how she has transformed her passion in spatial design into exquisite works of art.
