Avant-garde: the art of transcendence
Art has always helped artists and audiences highlight their own limitations, and history is full of moments when esteemed artists and institutions have worked together to break boundaries; take, for example, the series of paintings Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat worked on together in the 1980s. In Hong Kong, this spirit can be seen in the exciting partnership between Chanel and the M+ museum. Their joint programme, with its focus on preserving film and translating Coco Chanel’s avant-garde spirit for the 21st century, will bring out the best of Hong Kong’s rich cinematic history, says Yana Peel, the French luxury brand’s global head of art and culture.
Speaking of the best of Hong Kong, West Kowloon is playing host to 800 pieces from Alan Chan’s private collection in an exhibition that will help visitors understand the local designer’s creative process and success. And then you have inspiring women like Sonia Cheng, the CEO of Rosewood Hotel Group, who sat down with Tatler to talk about running a hotel empire.
