The founder of Kwai Fung Hin Gallery, Catherine Kwai previously worked in finance for a decade before turning her attention to the art world in 1993. She started off promoting western artists before quickly switching to Chinese work, and has represented leading Chinese artists including Zao Wou-ki, Ju Ming and Li Huayi, as well as championing new talents.

Kwai has also staged hundreds of exhibitions, curating more than 100 of them personally, including collaborations with the Shanghai Art Museum, Suzhou Museum and Asia Society Hong Kong. The gallery had a landmark 2021, opening a new space inside the Tai Kwun arts and heritage centre. She followed this in 2022 with the opening of the Kwai Fung Salone, also in Tai Kwun.

She is on the board of directors of Le French May and has been co-president of the Hong Kong Art Gallery Association and a member of the advisory committee on arts development for the Home Affairs Bureau.

Kwai is married to Edward Fung.
