Wheelock boss Douglas Woo is forging a new path for the family-owned company

The boss of Wheelock & Company and its principal subsidiary, The Wharf Holdings, Douglas Woo became managing director of the company in 2013, then took over as chairman the following year when his father, Peter, stepped down; before then, Woo worked in financial services and real estate. In 2020 he was behind the decision to take the business back into private hands after 57 years as a listed company.

Among the group’s projects are Times Square and Harbour City in Hong Kong, while its many other holdings include Marco Polo Hotels, i-Cable Communications, Wharf New T&T and the Lane Crawford department stores, as well as cargo terminal operations. He is on the boards of the Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and WWF-Hong Kong, and has been named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. He is a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
