Food writer and editor Janice Leung Hayes began her career at a Melbourne community magazine before moving to Hong Kong to work at Luxe City Guides. She has since contributed to the world’s biggest media brands including The New York Times, Monocle, Condé Nast Traveller, Eater and more; she also frequently collaborates with Tatler Dining Hong Kong.

Apart from writing about food, Leung Hayes has also become a key player in Hong Kong’s food scene herself. She founded Island East Markets in 2012, then followed it up with Tong Chong Street Market in 2015 and Poho Market in 2017, in turn fuelling a demand for locally grown produce in the city. Since 2018 she has co-headed multimedia agency Capsule48, while she also leads custom food and culture experiences as well as consulting on the F&B industry with Little Adventures in Hong Kong. A long-time champion of sustainable and organic produce, and of reforming the system that produces our food, she has run Honestly Green since 2014, a social enterprise and consultancy that focuses on food sustainability.
