Martin Lee holds considerable sway in the city's politics as well as the urban environment

Martin Lee is the chairman of Henderson Land Development, Henderson Investment, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company, and Miramar Hotel and Investment. Martin focuses on the company’s Hong Kong business, while his brother Peter takes care of mainland China. Martin took over the job in 2019, after becoming vice chairman in 2005 and an executive director in 1993. Among the projects he has spearheaded is The Henderson, Henderson Land’s highly anticipated flagship commercial development in Central, designed by the world-renowned Zaha Hadid Architects, which is scheduled for completion in 2023.

In 2021, Henderson Land acquired Site 3 of the New Central Harbourfront, which will be developed into an iconic three-tower development in two phases, with its first phase due for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Under Martin's compassionate stewardship, Henderson Land was the first developer in Hong Kong to participate in the HKSAR Government's transitional housing schemes. The company also initiated the city's largest transitional housing project in 2019 by providing a 428,000-square-foot site in Kong Ha Wai, Yuen Long for low-income families. Completed in 2022, it is expected to provide homes for around 40,000 people over the entire project period.

Martin is a member of the Court of the University of Hong Kong, the Court of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Court of City University of Hong Kong. He was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by University College London in 2021 and an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Social Science by the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong in 2022. A holder of the Gold Bauhinia Star, a member of the Chief Executive's Policy Unit (CEPU) Expert Group and a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, he is married to Cathy Chui Lee, with whom he has two daughters and two sons.
