Philip Ma

Director, Tai Sang

As well as helping to steer family business Tai Sang, Philip Ma is also a successful racing driver

Philip Ma is a director of Tai Sang Land Development and Tai Sang Bank, companies established by his father, Ma Kam-chan. The privately held Tai Sang Bank—famed for only having a single branch, in Hong Kong’s Central district—was established in 1937, with Kam-chan diversifying into real estate in 1968, and founding Tai Sang Land Development five years later. The company now also has holdings in hospitality, and operations in the United States. Philip Ma joined the business in 1987 and became a director in 1997.

Like Kam-chan, who himself moonlighted as a star of the racetrack, Philip also formerly blazed a trail on the racetrack, specialising in touring car and endurance racing: he raced in the World Touring Car Championship and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, and invested in Team Hong Kong Racing.

The vice chairman of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Philip Ma is also a world fellow of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation. He is married to Winnie Chin, with whom he has three children.
