In less than a decade, Steven Lam revolutionised logistics in Asia. He is the co-founder and self-styled “cheap everything officer” of online logistics platform Gogox, formerly known as Gogovan. Founded in 2013, it has revolutionised the business of hiring vans to transport goods by connecting drivers and their customers quickly, cheaply and seamlessly. Over the years, Gogox has evolved into a diversified logistics platform that supports instant delivery to customised logistics solutions, fulfilling all sorts of delivery needs with a high level of service.

Now, Gogox operates in 340 cities with an impressive 4.5 million registered drivers across Hong Kong, mainland China, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam and India. It all started when at a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco, where Lam and his co-founders Nick Tang and Reeve Kwan had a job delivering food.

After growing up on a public housing estate, Lam dropped out of high school and went to community college in the US, eventually putting himself through the University of California, Berkeley by selling second-hand iPhones and bicycles. He then moved back to Hong Kong and started Boxad, a company selling ads on food takeaway boxes. Inspired by the difficulty the company experienced trying to book vans, he and two friends co-founded Gogovan with a combined HK$20,000 of savings.

The company now has operations in mainland China and Southeast Asia, while its 2017 merger with Chinese freight giant 58 Suyun turned it into Hong Kong’s first unicorn. It has raised more than US$375 million from investors including Bank of Communications, Cyberport Macro Fund, Alibaba and Qianhai Fund of Funds.
