William Ma is the chairman of his family’s companies Tai Sang Land Development and Tai Sang Bank. He is the son of patriarch Ma Kam-chan, who founded the bank in the 1930s and his first real estate company in 1968, specialising in property investment, rental and development, as well as estate management and hotel operations; he incorporated Tai Sang Land Development and took it public in 1973.

William joined the company as a clerk in his early 20s, climbing the ranks until he was appointed its chairman in 1984. A member of the sponsorship and development fund committee of the Open University of Hong Kong, he has previously been on the board of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and a member of the Hong Kong’s government Criminal and Law Enforcement Injuries Compensation Board. Known as a private individual, he is a father of three.
