As expected of a legendary K-pop group, every member's net worth is in the millions

Last week, K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation made their long-awaited comeback with the drop of their seventh studio album—the first they have released as a group in five years. 

Since its release, the album, Forever 1, has sold over 185,600 copies in just its first week, doubling the first week sales of its last full album, Holiday Night.

The group’s long-awaited comeback is particularly special because each of the existing eight members of the group has since gone on to further their careers in different ways such as acting, and releasing their own solo albums. 

As we celebrate the group’s reunion and 15th anniversary as a group, we take a look at how much the members have earned throughout their careers so far.  

Tiffany Young

Net Worth: US$3 million

Tiffany Young was born in the United States and was discovered by SM Entertainment at the age of 15. After she was discovered, Young moved to Seoul to join Girl’s Generation and to further her career as a performer. 

In 2017, Young decided to return to Los Angeles where she experimented with a solo career. Clearly, this was the right move because many of her singles such as Over My Skin and Lips on Lips won her many coveted awards.

She also later branched into hosting and was on shows such as Breakfast with Tiffany, Girls Planet 999, Pet Vitamin and more. In 2021, Young also appeared in the South Korean production of the Broadway musical Chicago. She is set to appear in an upcoming Korean drama, The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate later this year.

Young has certainly learnt how to invest her wealth; in 2014, it was revealed that the star bought a luxurious home in Los Angeles with modern interiors.

Seohyun

Net Worth: US$4 million

Seohyun may be one of the youngest members of the K-pop group but she is also worth a whopping US$4 million. 

Her wealth comes mainly from her acting career which she began pursuing in 2017. She has since had leading roles in shows such as Bad Thief, Good Thief, Drama Festa: Hello Dracula and Private Lives.

She has also been in multiple musicals such as Gone With The Wind and Mamma Mia.

Seohyun is also quite a philanthropist. Just last year, the star donated about US$8,514 worth of feminine hygiene products to female-centred charities.

Yuri

Net Worth: US$5 million

With a net worth of US$5 million, Yuri earns most of her wealth from her career as an actress which she has been pursuing since 2012. 

She has, over the years, played leading roles in Korean dramas such as Dae Jang Geum Is Watching, Bossam: Steal the Fate and My Teenage Girl.

She has also released a solo album called The First Scene and sang for a variety of drama soundtracks.

Yuri reportedly purchased a five-storey building in Gangnam a few years ago, according to Korean entertainment site Allkpop. In 2020, the star bought a second building in Nonhyun-dong, Gangnam worth US$11 million.

She also owns a luxury villa in Cheongdamdong, Seoul that is worth US$1.3 million.

Hyoyeon

Net Worth: US$5 million

As the group’s main dancer and rapper, Hyoyeon has made a name for herself in the industry through her work as a DJ. Known as DJ Hyo, she has released many hit singles such as Wannabe, Sober, Punk Right Now, Badster, Dessert and Second.

Hyoyeon has also participated in a multitude of variety shows and music videos by other artists. 

In 2020, Hyoyeon showed off her luxury penthouse on the variety show Yurang Market. The star reportedly purchased the unit, which was on the 60th floor and which boasted unobstructed views of the ocean, for about US$916,534 in 2012, according to 8 Days.

She lived in the apartment with her parents and decided to sell the unit shortly after showing it off on the variety show. The unit was listed for sale at about US$3 million.

Sunny

Net Worth: US$7 million

With a net worth of US$7 million, Sunny is well known for starring in many variety shows and earning her wealth primarily through them. 

She has hosted shows such as Beauty and Luxury 6, Spicy Girls, Legendary Trainee, Love Catcher in Seoul and Idea Panda.

According to Korean news site Channel-Korea, Sunny reportedly lives in Seongsu-dong, which is well known to be an exclusive residential area in Seoul. Her apartment is near the Han River and Seoul Forest and features floor-to-ceiling windows that offer stunning views of the city skyline.

Sooyoung

Net Worth: US$10 million

Sooyoung has proven her acting chops over the years and currently earns most of her wealth through acting. She has appeared in many Korean films and dramas such as Netflix’s hit feel-good K-drama series Move to Heaven, If You Wish Upon Me and Uncle.

She also uploads vlogs onto her YouTube channel which has over 500,000 subscribers and sings for many promotional and official soundtracks.

According to Allkpop, Sooyoung owns land in Gangnam and lives in a luxurious villa in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam worth about US$2.6 million. The villa reportedly boasts a stellar security system as well as party, movie and fitness rooms.

Taeyeon

Net Worth: US$15-18 million

As the group’s leader and vocalist, Taeyeon has made a name for herself as one of Korea’s most successful female soloists today. 

She has topped multiple female bestselling solo artist lists over the past few years and has reportedly made about US$900,000 per song.

Taeyeon also earns money for her Youtube channel which has over a million subscribers and through multiple endorsements by brands such as the Nature Republic and Banila Co.

As one of the wealthiest members of the group, Taeyeon also makes sure to give back to the community. In 2019, the star reportedly donated US$88,000 to the Korean Red Cross to provide disadvantaged women and teenage girls with health and hygiene products such as sanitary pads, according to South China Morning Post.

Yoona

Net Worth: US$20 million

Coming in at the wealthiest is Yoona who is one of the best-known singers and actresses today. She started her acting career in 2007 and has since appeared in Korean films and dramas such as The K2, The King in Love and Big Mouse

Yoona also reportedly made nearly US$2.7 million for her appearance in the Chinese drama God of War, Zhao Yun.

In 2019, it was reported by Allkpop that she purchased a building in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, for US$9 million.
