The Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children (HKSPC) was founded in 1926. Its services have evolved in line with Hong Kong’s changing needs, but its aim remains the same: to ensure less-privileged children in Hong Kong can live in a happy, healthy, safe environment.

The HKSPC aims to provide care to children as well as improving their educational and social development, with a focus on the needs of low-income families and single parents, newly arrived families and those from ethnic minorities.

The organisation operates 27 centres that provide a variety of services to about 3,000 children and families daily: children’s residential homes, day crèches, nursery schools, children and family service centres, and the Centre for Child Enlightenment. Qualified childcare workers look after infants up to two years old at the crèches, while the nursery schools educate children from two to six.

Perhaps even more important are the children’s residential homes, which provide 24/7 care to newborns and children up to the age of three whose families are unable to care for them. The children and family service centres offer comprehensive support for local families, new immigrants and ethnic minority families with the aim of strengthening and stabilising family bonds and enhancing children’s development.
